Walgreens Community-based Pharmacy Residency Program is a postgraduate training opportunity for pharmacists that aims to develop advanced community retail pharmacists who will implement and manage services to help patients get, stay, and live well. Residents will provide direct patient care to a variety of patient populations, collaborate with other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes, and incorporate patient care activities into daily workflow.
This PGY1 residency experience takes place at multiple Walgreens pharmacies throughout the greater Jackson, Mississippi area. These varying locations offer the resident the opportunity to practice in focused areas of patient care services such as specialty pharmacy, medication management, immunizations, travel health, clinical practice management and more. The resident will further develop their skills and knowledge from pharmacist leaders within community pharmacy practice.
This PGY1 community-based pharmacy residency conducted by Walgreens has is accredited with the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists in association with the American Pharmacists Association. Graduates from this program will be leaders in the pharmacy community and have an active role in advancing community pharmacy practice.
Develop collaborative programs to improve patient adherence and outcomes
Provide medication management services and patient counseling
Deliver preventative health services including routine immunizations and off-site immunization clinics
Provide travel health consultations and administer travel-related vaccines
Develop pharmacy practice management skills
Provide services for patients taking specialty medications for HIV, Hep C, and other conditions
Be responsible for patient-centered dispensing at a local Walgreens
Participate in community outreach
Assist as a student pharmacist preceptor
Design and conduct a practice-based research project
Present research project findings at a professional conference
Complete teaching and learning certificate program (optional)

Paid Time Off (PTO). The rate at which you accrue your PTO will be based on your years of service, average hours per week, and position. Resident pharmacists may accrue approximately 15 days (120 hours) depending on average hours worked and time in position.
Doctor of Pharmacy degree from a college or school of pharmacy accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education
