The Wisconsin Poison Center (WPC) seeks a Specialist in Poison Information to join our team! The position is located in Milwaukee, at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. U.S. News & World Report has ranked Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin as one of the top Children’s Hospitals in the nation.
The position involves triaging incoming emergency calls from the state of Wisconsin public and health care providers. They assess, evaluate, disposition, educate, and provide prevention information regarding human toxic exposures using medically approved guidelines in computer software systems. The WPC staff work with 4 medical toxicologists and 1 clinical toxicologist (ABAT). The WPC also has an affiliation with the Medical College of Wisconsin and is used as a teaching center for residents.
The WPC has positions available on second shift with varied hours. After 2000 calls and 2000 hours worked, the SPI is required to complete the AAPCC certification exam, which is good for 7 years. Once the AAPCC certification exam is passed successfully, some shifts may be worked remotely. These positions include holiday and every other weekend obligations. The schedule is set on a two week rotation created in four block times frames.

RN or pharmacist with previous clinical or Poison Center experience.
Current state of Wisconsin RN licensure or pharmacy licensure.
Prefer three years of clinical experience in acute, ambulatory care or a pediatric setting or previous experience in an AAPCC certified Poison Center.
Successful completion of exam for Certified Specialist in Poison Information (CSPI) after meeting the requirements put forth by the American Association of Poison Control Centers. Incumbent must successfully complete exam within 3 attempts.
