Gastonia, North Carolina
CaroMont Regional Medical Center (CRMC) is presently accepting applications for its PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program. CRMC, a part of CaroMont Health, is a 435-bed community hospital located in Gastonia, North Carolina approximately 18 miles west of Charlotte. We serve a diverse patient population through a pharmacy-forward model of practice which provides the pharmacy resident with a high level of autonomy while our dedicated preceptors guide them throughout their professional growth.
The ASHP-accredited PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at CaroMont Regional Medical Center began in 1996 and now offers two positions each residency year. We strive to be a well-rounded community hospital program with a focus on creating strong, capable pharmacist clinicians by customizing our curriculum to meet the individual’s needs. During the year our residents receive training in the community hospital setting while working with experienced preceptors who mentor the residents and challenge the residents to achieve their individual professional goals.
Our residents receive exposure to acute inpatient care in the following areas: Intensive Care, Coronary Care, Cardiovascular Surgery and Recovery, Surgical Intensive Care, General Medical Care, General Surgical Care, Orthopedics, Nephrology, Oncology, Women’s Health, Pediatrics, Neonatal Intensive Care, and Emergency Services including Level III Trauma Services. The Pharmacy Department also provides services in a pharmacist managed outpatient Anticoagulation Clinic, inpatient medication management protocols and an Operating Room satellite pharmacy. Emergency medicine clinical pharmacy services are provided in the CRMC ED as well as in a new freestanding Emergency Department located 10 miles northeast of the main medical center. The pharmacists at CRMC are also active in the community through involvement with health screenings/medication education, local high school education, and precepting pharmacy students from regional schools of pharmacy including the University of North Carolina, High Point University and Wingate University.
The clinical pharmacists have a collaborative practice with physicians and nurses and provide pharmaceutical care through cognitive and distributive services. Clinical pharmacists provide automatic renal dosing, pharmacokinetic monitoring, therapeutic consults, anticoagulation management, parenteral nutrition consultations and discharge medication counseling.
The purpose of the CRMC PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program is to build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.
CRMC does participate in the early commitment process for our PGY2 Emergency Medicine Pharmacy Residency program.
The application deadline in PhORCAS is January 7, 2019.
The 12-month residency year will begin on Monday, July 8, 2019.
Applications will only be accepted using the PhORCAS system. Completed applications must be submitted by January 7, 2019.
CRMC does not currently sponsor candidates for H-1B visa status to work as pharmacy residents.
Residents must be licensed, without restrictions, by the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy no later than August 1 of their residency year.
