This is a 40-hour position for an experienced clinical social worker (LMSW required) who has provided evidence-based therapies for people with serious substance abuse disorders, including people addicted to opiates. The social worker will provide brief interventions with these patients, consult to the medical staff and make educational presentations.
The position is a split position with 50% of the work occurring in the University of Michigan Addiction Services program, located in ambulatory psychiatry. The position will involve evaluating new patients, and providing group and individual therapy to patients with dual-diagnoses and opiate use disorders. The other 50% of the position will be funded by grants and will involve working with medical patients who have significant substance abuse disorders who are being treated in primary care and in a hepatology (liver) clinic.
Master's degree in Social Work from a school accredited by the Council of Social Work Education is necessary. Must have current clinical license to practice social work in the State of Michigan. LLMSWs will not be considered for this position
The applicant should have training in and experience using motivational interviewing and CBT as well as knowledge and experience with psychiatric disorders. The ideal person should be flexible, organized and possess excellent interpersonal skills given the variety of multi-disciplinary settings involved.
This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate. Advancement through the career ladder at the Expert or Clinical Scholar Level is required for placement in the MSW Senior Classification
