The purpose of the PGY1/PGY2 Residency in Health-System Pharmacy Administration combined program with a MS in Pharmacy Leadership and Administration is to develop pharmacy leaders by providing the administrative and clinical skills necessary to lead a large health-system pharmacy or other healthcare organization in advancing patient care. We combine both a didactic and practical learning environment to train the pharmacy profession's future leaders.

Licensure and employment: Texas pharmacist licensure is required within 90 days of starting the program. Failure to do so will result in termination of employment.

Master's Program: Each resident will earn a MS in Pharmacy Leadership and Administration through UH alongside Administrative Residents from other hospitals in the Texas Medical Center. This platform allows residents to learn and experience innovations being implemented at the various hospitals in the largest medical center in the world.
Supervise the employee internship program
Develop/revise policies and procedures
Manage process improvement initiatives
Participate in both employee and resident recruitment and selection processes
Lead the HMH pharmacy resident team in organizing Pharmacy Week activities
Participate in administrative on-call duties
Staffing every third weekend
One evening shift every two weeks averaged over a four week period starting in Year 2 of program
Residents will work two holiday shifts per year
Each resident will plan, design and complete one major research project each year. One of these projects may serve as the Master’s research project or thesis.
Research results are presented at the Alcalde Southwest Leadership Conference and/or the Midwest Pharmacy Residents Conference, among other meetings.
Residents will spearhead projects stemming from departmental initiatives.
Teaching Certificate Program through the University of Houston College of Pharmacy to promote scholarship in academia
Attend monthly meetings with co-residents and program directors to discuss a variety of topics including patient cases, journal clubs, guidelines and leadership
Present an ACPE-accredited continuing pharmacy education activity
