The PGY1 Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis Community Pharmacy Residency Program is a one year postgraduate training program based within the Baptist-Memphis system, which includes three outpatient pharmacies (outpatient, mail order, and specialty). Focused training includes Specialty Pharmacy, Transitions of Care, Discharge Medication Delivery, Internal Medicine, Practice Management, and Outpatient Pharmacy Services. Baptist-Memphis’ close proximity to outpatient Baptist Medical Group and Baptist Cancer Center allow the resident to participate in smoking cessation counseling, oncology infusion services, and developing new ambulatory pharmacy services. The residency experience is tailored to the resident’s interests and goals. A Teaching and Learning Certificate program is offered through the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy. Teaching experiences include didactic teaching, precepting of students, and teaching small group sessions. With a health system perspective, the resident will develop a broad understanding of the pharmacist’s role in a variety of health care settings, the business of community pharmacy, and the advancement of pharmacy practice in the community pharmacy setting.

The Baptist Memorial Hospital – Memphis location is the flagship hospital for a 21 – hospital system and serves as a tertiary referral center from the surrounding tri-state area. The Department of Pharmacy services has integrated technology for medication distribution to allow the pharmacists a more patient-focused practice. In addition to the Community Pharmacy Practice Residency program, the department provides institutional and clinical training for pharmacy students affiliated with The University of Tennessee Health Science Center, The University of Mississippi, Union University and Samford University – McWhorter School of Pharmacy.
