NorthShore University HealthSystem is a private, not-for-profit community teaching hospital system based in Evanston, Illinois. Education of health care professionals is an important component of our mission. NorthShore currently offers 13 positions in the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency program, 3 positions in the PGY1 Community Residency program, 2 positions in the PGY2 Internal Medicine Residency Program, and 1 position each in the PGY2 Oncology, PGY2 Pharmacy Informatics, and PGY2 Health System Pharmacy Administration Residency Programs. All residents have opportunities to develop and reinforce clinical, practice management, and precepting skills to advance as well rounded practitioners.
Outpatient Pharmacy Department
NorthShore University HealthSystem Outpatient Pharmacy Department is comprised of three hospital outpatient pharmacies located in Evanston, Glenbrook and Skokie Hospitals; and oncology specialty retail pharmacies at Evanston, Glenbrook, and Highland Park Hospitals.
The NorthShore Community Pharmacy Residency Program was established in 2007 to develop and implement advanced patient care services in the outpatient hospital pharmacies. The NorthShore Community Pharmacy Residency Program was granted full ASHP accreditation in 2009. The Community Pharmacy Residency Program is recruiting for 3 (three) positions.
Community Pharmacy Practice Residency Program Highlights
The resident will gain experience in:
Developing and marketing new innovative pharmacy services
Determining the value of and securing compensation for patient-care services
Providing immunizations, MTM services, and other disease state management programs
Conducting health and wellness outreach programs in various community settings
Educating healthcare professionals and students
Participating in ambulatory Anticoagulation, Oncology, Heart Failure, and General Medicine Clinics
Managing and leading a profitable and clinically effective pharmacy
Presenting residency projects at regional and national professional conferences
Establishing collaborative working relationships with community healthcare providers
Developing professional and leadership skills necessary for advancing pharmacy practice
Community Residency Learning Experiences:
Patient Centered Dispensing
The resident is expected to staff as a community pharmacist once a week and every other weekend. The resident will staff in various pharmacy locations and is expected to work closely with other health care professionals and patients.
Duration, Salary, and Benefits
The residency begins on July 1st and lasts for 12 months. Annual salary is competitive with other programs. Benefits include healthcare coverage, prescription coverage, dental, vacation, sick time, Tax Deferred Annuity and continuing education funding.
APhA Annual Meeting and the Great Lakes Pharmacy Resident Conference
The following are required for all candidates:
Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an ACPE accredited program prior to start date
Current Illinois Pharmacy Technician or Student Intern license (if a pharmacist license is not obtained prior to start of residency year)
Illinois Pharmacist Registration by August 15th of residency year
PhORCAS application, including curriculum vitae, letter of intent, transcript, and 3 letters of recommendation (at least 1 letter must be from a previous employer)
Onsite interview for selected candidates
Previous work experience in a community pharmacy is preferred. All candidates must be self-directed and motivated.

The Pharmacy Department provides clinical services through decentralized pharmacists in an integrated practice model. Distribution is through automated dispensing machines and centralized IV preparation. Education of health care professionals is an important component of our mission.
