Established in 1967, the mission of the UC Irvine Pharmacy PGY1 Residency Program is to develop capable, confident, and independent pharmacists equipped with a foundation of knowledge and skills to meet the current and future challenges of pharmacy practice, through impactful learning experiences led by experienced and inspirational preceptors within a pharmacy department focused on high-quality, cost-effective pharmaceutical care in an inpatient-focused, collaborative, university-based environment. The vision of the UC Irvine Pharmacy PGY1 Residency Program is to be a recognized residency training site of excellence that produces exemplary pharmacists who make a difference in patient care and in the pharmacy profession.
Learning experiences are offered in a wide variety of practice areas and are customized to the resident's individual interests. Our preceptors provide expert training to our residents, and many are board-certified pharmacotherapy specialists.
Learning experiences include:
Required block learning experiences include orientation, critical care medical ICU, critical care neuro ICU, infectious diseases, internal medicine, leadership and practice management, and medication safety.
Elective block learning experiences include emergency medicine, critical care neonatal ICU, informatics and automation, oncology, and palliative care.
Required longitudinal learning experiences include: anticoagulation clinic, transplant clinic, staffing, practice management, teaching certificate, and research

Graduation from an ACPE-accredited pharmacy program with a PharmD degree.
