We partner with the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Department of Pediatrics, the largest department within the medical school, to serve as a major hub for medical students, pharmacy students and nursing students from across the nation and beyond.
Our PGY2 pediatric specialty residency program has a long and distinguished history, stemming from our original program accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists in 1972. We are an unique program that tailors its design every year, depending on the current resident’s prior pediatric knowledge/experiences and specific pediatric specialty interests. Whether our residents have limited pediatric experiences or are PGY1 graduates from another children’s hospital, our goal is the same: we aim to ensure that our graduates maximize their pediatric experiences and education in order to become specialists in pediatric clinical pharmacy.
All PGY2 residency graduates exit our program equipped to be fully-integrated members of the interdisciplinary pediatric medical team, able to make complex medication recommendations in this unique patient population. Our training focuses on developing the resident with capabilities to understand a wide range of diseases and disorders that occur in patients from the neonatal period to adolescents. Graduates are experienced in clinical pediatric research and excel in their ability to teach other health professionals (including student health professionals). They also acquire the experience necessary to exercise leadership of pediatric pharmacy practice in the health system.
Thank you for your interest in the Palmetto Health PGY2 Pediatric Pharmacy Residency program. Interested candidates must have a PharmD from an accredited college of pharmacy, must have completed or currently be completing an ASHP-accredited PGY1 residency program and be eligible for or have current licensure in South Carolina.
