The PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Program at West Florida Hospital builds upon the resident's Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education. The goal of this program is to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, provide eligibility for board certification as a pharmaco-therapy specialist, prepare the resident for Postgraduate Year Two (PGY-2) Pharmacy Residency, if desired, or prepare the resident to seek a role as a clinical pharmacist in a community or academic hospital setting.
The resident will be an active member of the healthcare team with opportunities to influence medication use and safety practices. The resident will have opportunities to be involved with teaching pharmacy students, admission and discharge medication reconciliation, formulary management, policy development, antimicrobial stewardship, residency project completion and presentation at the Florida Residency Conference.
The PGY-1 program at West Florida Hospital offers flexibility, while providing a strong foundation in all areas of pharmacy practice. The program is fully accredited with ASHP.

Graduate from an ACPE-accredited school of pharmacy
Doctor of Pharmacy degree
Eligible for licensure or already licensed as a pharmacist in the State of Florida

Our supportive, close-knit workplace means a friendly, caring, patient-centered environment with one-on-one daily interactions with preceptors and the medical staff. Each resident has his/her own personal desk in a spacious office. Residents also receive a personal laptop with remote access to all of the necessary clinical tools a resident needs (i.e. Clinical Pharmacology, UpToDate, Vigilanz, Lexicomp, etc.).
