This PGY1 pharmacy residency program with a focus in primary care at Lee County VA Healthcare Center is designed to develop clinical skills essential for a contemporary ambulatory care pharmacy practice. This program offers opportunities to work with health care professionals utilizing a patient aligned care team (PACT) model. Residents will work closely with clinical pharmacy specialists and the PACT teams in the management of multiple disease states including diabetes, anticoagulation, hypertension, heart failure, and hyperlipidemia. Emphasis is placed on communication and teaching skills, with extensive opportunities for staff development lectures and serving as preceptor for students. Residents receive certification in BLS; participate in medication-use evaluation, formulary management, pharmacy service, P&T and other multidisciplinary committees and complete an original research project that contributes to pharmaceutical care.
